I've been noticing that with pressure plate traps, when you fail setting it up and get a backlash, it leaves an active, but not hidden, trap in the room, which, if you attempt to disassemble, tells you it's broken.
There seems to be a correlation between mobs setting broken traps off and crashes, and otherwise the only way to get them down short of petitioning up is to either wait for mobs to pop the trap five times, or to pop it that many times yourself (which hurts like hell).

Fixed, for the record. If you fail setting it up, you can disassemble them.
