One concept that I've been toying around with in my head has been the infiltrator. I believe with all three families striving for contention over Rust, the character who assimilates himself with one family on (secret) behalf of another can be an invaluable asset. Played correctly, and with much IC discretion, the information gathered could be leveraged in one families favor, especially in these early power struggles.
That is to say, this would be a cool idea if it isn't happening already and we just don't know about it.

The best way to maintain something like this, imo, is to make the character self-destructive - it's very hard to feel sorry a stupid bastard that digs himself deeper with every single word that comes out of his mouth. Maybe they're afraid of intimacy so they tear down any meaningful relationships in a creative and insulting manner. Maybe they're perfectly capable of changing for the better, but tell themselves they'll never amount to anything over and over again as part of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Maybe he just beats anyone up that dares to express pity for him/her.

What I ended up choosing for my first character. Someone with just sneaking/hiding and artistry.
It's the concept I had in my head, though. And well, stuck with it. Now to see if I can work my way around it.

A character with one huge club arm that gives +8 strength or something ridiculous, but the other arm is shrivelled up and useless (and therefore can't be used to hold/wield things)
