Which fighting style does using a pistol and sword at the same time use?

dual-wield, since you are beating them with the pistol when not shooting it, and blocking with the short-sword (if you still wanted to shoot the pistol, I mean). It's a piss-poor bludgeon and blade combo, but with the advantage of..you know...having a gun.

Does it HAVE to be a shortsword, or can you use a regular one as well?

my understanding is that it has to be a s-blade in order for that to work where you can still fire the pistol off (with the gun being wielded first). I am, however, only about 75-80 percent certain on this aspect of it, so you might wanna get an admin to chime in if they can.
pretty certain on the d-wield thing, though
Edit: I mean in terms of it being the skill that is used.

You have to wield the pistol in the main hand, and dualwield a short sword (or long sword, if you have peak strength) in your second hand. Otherwise, you have no option to shoot.
That said, as Padwald said, it's a piss-poor weapon combo, if you want to actually do melee damage. Or be able to aim.

it's one of those things that you would be better off having a shield, and simply having the shield in the off-hand, pulling the pistol and emptying the clip, holstering it, and drawing your sword.
or doing all that with a knife in the off-hand works too, I suppose.

Pistol+weapon is neither dual-wield or sole-wield.

every single time combat is engaged at melee range with no ranged weapons being fired, it is either brawling, dwield, or sole-wield, as far as I have heard from the admins.

You'll be doing some serious damage to your gun doing that combo. Im pretty confident padwell is correct.

It doesn't use a style skill at all, more than likely, but I'm not completely certain.
If it does use a style skill, it'd be dual wield. But, I'm fairly certain Cruelcore is right and it doesn't use one at all.
And you can't just empty a clip in melee, since every shot takes balance.
