Maybe people could actually start turf wars if other clans did turfquests they considered in their territory.

I think the intent is for it to be more a matter of principal.

I think a real turf war would only start if something truly major happened, that was clearly malicious, intended, and viscious. A few members of a Family having a fight with members of another doesn't make a turf war. And yes, if you make yourself a reckless liabilty to your family by killing members of another Family when it wasn't required, you may just be kicked out if it's decided it's not worth the trouble to fight for you. Most Atonement code 'wars' are generally just a few days of rampant violence, where most of the fighters are killed, and then it is pretty much over. Which, from an RP standpoint, is kinda pointless, since deadmen can't RP. Conflict is disputes, is looking down on others, is having robust arguments, and sometimes scuffles in the turf. It doesn't have to be all out-murder. As for the way the game is going I actually -really- enjoy it, so far. I don't have many complaints. And scav trips aren't boring, even the 100th. Out on these scavs, people don't magically go robot and stop talking. They interact, banter, bicker, all the stuff that makes it an RPI. There will always be a few characters IG who seem like zombies, with a robotic demeanour and no perceptible personality. My advice is to ignore them. Clanleads are doing a great job so far, it's a lot of work for them and they are doing a good job I think.

People keep suggesting, "Do this instead." It's been done. Exploring? Check. Roleplay for exploring? Check. Turf improvements? Check. Prize fighting? Check. Political jockeying? Check.

The only conflict/fighting that's come up in interclan-stuff has been solely related to "HE HURT MAH FEELINGS" and then shooting eachother over it, and more than half of it has been straight-up suicidal. People are trying. But a lot of people don't feel the need to carry their own weight.

ETA:

I've already tried to start conflict. Do you know what the net result was? I had the entire playerbase, bar one person, turn against me. Yeah, I'm not gonna bother with that again.

I've already tried to do things, and start things that weren't just pk and conflict. Do you know what I was told/Have been consistently told? Nope. Don't bother.

Maybe it was the clan I was in. Maybe it's the fact that we've reached a point where people legitimately act as if bar brawls, let alone actual conflict, is/are an uncommon occurrence. Maybe I, personally, am just not good enough to do this. Who knows? I'm certainly not going to try anymore. Because if I'm just going to get shot down every time, often and regularly, by everyone including the people in my own clan? There's no point. So fuck it.

Oh my god, so much this. This to the power of infinity.

Bump. Good post, right here.

Wait, wait, one more time.

"We'd like to see more IC conflict" doesn't mean "We'd like to see more PCs who exist primarily with the intent to PK members of other clans for a cliche'd background reason of 'they killed mah pa!'", so constantly quoting that block of text isn't really doing much more than being irritating.

I guess the only thing left to do is bandwagon, then.

inb4 the farthest current conflict goes is "hur my clan lead is so mean QQ" or "tht was my piece of scrap bych, ill wreck you" or "lol 4 v 1 on some tard indie". But seriously. Scav runs are boring because of how many people are involved. The whole playerbase is involved because there's no inter-clan conflict. There's no inter-clan conflict because the game and playerbase doesn't support it, and the lore doesn't really push for it.

Little confused on why staff claim they want player conflict, but when people were at each other's necks for families doing turf quests on the opposite side of the slums, staff immediately jumped in and enforced bits of a imaginary lore that aren't in the wiki, such as 'the bits of slum on either side of the 'main' streets don't belong to any family'. And before someone jumps in saying something about turf quests only meaning a profit of a red or two, it's more about the idea of respect and 'owning' the street, not the money.

Just my opinion, doe. Don't take any offense to people labeling my chars as PK-heavy because I believe it's better than twinking 24/7 or spamming teach. Very Happy

I respectfully disagree with just about everything you say there, Zerero. I don't think it's also terribly good form to insinuate others are twinking 24/7 or spamming teach. Though you might be being facetious there, it's hard to tell. And the "whole" playerbase doesn't go out on scav runs. I think you should outlay, simply, what you think should happen to the game to make it more into what you see it being it should be.

Also, the bits of turf which belong to each Family are very clearly shown, the whole graffiti marking the entrance to (clan name) turf thingy. So anything outside of that isn't technically family turf.

Yup, this is what I was referring to, my friend. This coded graffiti marks the supposed 'main' streets for each family. However, at launch I assumed (and I would say quite a few others, since it was discussed thoroughly for a period) that the surrounding, unmarked and unnamed streets were also part of a family's "turf". I will now quote excerpts from the wiki that led me to believe this.

wiki wrote:
The New Guard live on the eastern side of the settlement's outer slums, presiding over a long stretch of turf east of the Hyperion Platform...

The Niners' turf is on the west side of Rust, directly opposite of The New Guard's with whom they fought fiercely in the settlement's infancy and still maintain a tense rivalry...

Further north is the turf of The Red Company with whom they have fought little, but have long suspected of secretly aiding The New Guard in order to encroach on Block Nine's turf...

Alright, and then we get people who come and argue: "Well, these unnamed and unmarked streets are dirty and full of the homeless and sick. The families wouldn't even want to own these streets because they're unpresentable and would do bad to said family's name... "

Please refer to this excerpt from the wiki:

wiki wrote:

Their streets are poorly cared-for, often littered with trash and debris, and it is rare that a Niner bothers to maintain whatever building they are currently sleeping in.

Even if the Guard and Reds were too prideful to call downtrodden streets their 'turf', why wouldn't the Niners be scrambling to gather any piece of unmarked street? I mean, it clearly says they don't give a fuck in the wiki and that wars specifically based around the acquisition of turf have been fought in the past.

Just makes me a little confused on the staff's choices concerning the conflict surrounding turf quests. Just want to add on that I probably sound like an arse, but I don't hate the staff. And Holmes is still my favorite. <3

Hope that clears up the "turf" part of my previous post.
