*clears his throat as he tries to remember* okay, stages of hunger go:
-absolutely stuffed
-satiated (edited to add this, thanks crayon!)
-full
-slightly peckish
-hungry
-famished
-ravenous
-there might be one after that is starving in some way, but ravenous actually does give you damage so be careful
for thirst i am a LITTLE less clear on, but here we go:
(hugely full one, not positive)
-sated
-not thirsty
-a little thirsty
-quite parched (i think, might be one in between)
-desperately thirsty
-dying of thirst (which is where you start to have problems, I believe...duh.)
Edited to add: I freely admit that I am the sort to type "drink <whatever> fifty" as soon as I get near any water source, so I tend to miss out on the thirst code, if anyone can help fill that in.

Add satiated between full and absolutely stuffed for food and I think that's right.
There are a ton more thirst ones between sated and a little thirsty.

You don't take damage, as far as I know, until either 'almost starved to death' or 'feeling faint'.

Huh. When I get to ravenous, it usually keeps repeated there instead of going any lower

It takes dedication. And I'm pretty sure you don't take actually take damage, in spite of the messages in health. At least for slowly starving and above.

Are all PCs who are independent market folk?
Are slummers and indies somehow different things?

I can field this one. No not all Indies are market folk, though the interpretation and leanings currently seem to lean towards living in the market, or gravitating towards there.
Slummers or Southsiders who live in the gangland sprawl, work there, seize petty power there, conflict with other gangs trying to keep their slice of slum to themselves--these people are all obviously indies, but they live in the Slum. The shantytown in the market might be called a slum if it wasn't for the fact that it's well policed and generally very safe to live in.
So I guess the difference is--Indies living in the market = used to a safer standard of living. Indies living in Gangland = Fend for themselves with tooth, claw, crook and hook.
