Probably the theme. When you have three very different clans, it's hardly surprising that some concepts would be more popular than others. We can see something very similar in Planetside 2 faction populations. The alien-tech cultists aren't quite as popular as black-and-red imperial troopers and miners fighting for their independence.

you know, that's NOT a terrible idea. Since I don't like rolling in the same Family twice in a row, i may just do that and go where the wind takes me, see if inspiration strikes once i see "oh, seems I'm giving the New Guard a chance this time around."
